His band name aside, Dougal Shaw is very serious about his music – now presented by a full band. Dr Sure’s Unusual Practice’s first cassette appeared at the start of the year, followed by the debut album West on Marthouse Records. It’s great record full of memorable tunes, mining the The Fall territory via Scottish groups like Josef K and Fire Engines. The band recently had their gear stolen and while I was in Melbourne there was a benefit show at Yah Yahs to support them. If you get something from their bandcamp I’m sure they’d appreciate it.
