Sometimes it pays off looking at Jake Ollet’s photos for hours. That’s how I found Sydney group Circus Variety Act. With a difficult name to google, I’m so glad I heard their Have You Ever Been Targeted EP that came out in January. They just played a show with the equally great Display Homes in their hometown. Like fellow Sydney bands Sports Bra and Birthday Girl, they have a female vocalist. And she delivers some devastatingly great lines like “I don’t need to wear a smile” on “One Trick Pony”. “Therapy Dog” might be my favourite track though, and any fans of Lung Leg and Rapid Tan might be inclined to agree.
