Nun sound so much like mid-80s Britain it’s hard to believe they’re from present-day Melbourne. Like the great Bitumen from the same town, they have a female vocalist and showcase a harrowingly dark sound. Nun are much more synthesizer-based however, and on their recent second album The Dome they present a solid unity of songs. Jenny Branagan switches between her speech-like vocal delivery to melodic choruses – sometimes remaining at the very back of the mix. Actually, Aarght! released this at the end of last year, but since it was recorded back in 2016 and wasn’t released in the US until a couple of months ago, I felt I should tell you about it. HoZac did the honours.
