Kim Gray is one of those guys who seem to have pockets lined with brilliant pop songs. With his debut Compulsion from 2017 he had me hooked, at least. The Vancouver artist has been working on the follow-up since then, and he’s now introducing Plastic Memory – out on Buzz Records. “Living On Credit” is the third single to be released from the album with a video. It’s a laidback drum machine-led ode to being broke, and it’s also the final track on the record. I hear echoes of everything from Spectrals to Prefab Sprout here. The rest of the record is a bit more uplifting, like my favourite track “Dream Like Tommy” with its ingenious bass line. If you liked the latest King Tuff record, this has a similar kind of vibe.
