Tiny Richmond label Spacebomb have just issued the second album by sublime songwriter Bedouine. A few singles preceded the release of the record, one of them was “Bird” that appeared with a video a few months ago. In the video Azniv Korkejian is walking through a chilly spring landscape. But if you listen to the song itself it has that same late summer vibe as most of Nick Drake’s oeuvre. The same goes for the rest Bird Songs of a Killjoy – an impressive sophomore release from the LA-based artist. It’s still hard not to make comparisons to Vashti Bunyan, but that’s to be considered more of an honour than anything else. No other female songwriter have come so close to her greatness in recent years. In “Dizzy” Bedouine have even managed to write a full-fledged pop song, while the languid “Hummingbird” veers towards the contemporary country-folk of Kacy & Clayton.
