Born Bad have issued a great new EP from French artist Marietta, whose La Passagere album impressed me a great deal with its songwriting and guest appearance from Halo Maud. The new record is called Cream Team and consist of the new track “Pristine” along with live versions of two older album tracks, like a 12-minute version of “The NBA Conspiracy”. “Pristine” is itself an ambitious number which starts off in a folk-rock vein not too far from White Fence territory, waxing into a tremendous crescendo of synths and haywire guitars that reminds me of 90s Sonic Youth. Apparently the ‘cream team’ refers to the live musicians Marietta worked with on his recent tours. I hope they back together at some point.
