It took them a good three years, but Brooklyn’s Mystery Lights have returned with another great longplayer. Too Much Tension! is their second album, still on Wick, and it offers more of their tightly wound garage-psych that sometimes spills over into punk. Mostly they stick to the groove though, as on “Thick Skin”. A song as great as anything by The Go and that might be their best since the first 45 “Too Many Girls”. The moody “It’s Alright” is another fine piece of songwriting reminding me of The Frowning Clouds. They’re soon embarking on another European tour, which amongst other places, sees them back in Copenhagen where they did an absolutely raucous set a few years back. Don’t miss them this time around.
