Chris Cohen’s new album just came out on Captured Tracks and it’s a brilliant follow-up to As If Apart from 2016. Three years is admittedly a pretty long wait, but Cohen has worked on developing his sound. This third, selftitled LP features lush arrangements and a baroque pop sound reminiscent of contemporary artists like Brent Cash and Nicholas Krgovich. One of the singles shared before the album, “Green Eyes”, sounds like a modern radio classic even if it will probably only be played on some college stations. Cohen (who honed his skills in bands like Deerhoof, The Curtains and Cryptacize just to name a few) is a modern songwriting genius, and on “Heavy Weather Sailing” he’s actually created something that sounds like a Lennon/McCartney song for the 2010’s. The rest of the album sounds remarkably similar to the new record from Weyes Blood, another artist Cohen has collaborated with in the past.
