Swedish group Ruby Empress has just released the third single from their upcoming debut LP, which is out later in 2019. The new track is called “See No Evil” and shows an impressive musical development from the first EP Empressionism from 2017, which was so in love with disco. Singer Tom Serner takes centre stage here, and it’s easy to make comparisons to Ariel Pink or Of Montreal, of course. But for a Swedish group, Ruby Empress is unique in the way that they’re not looking to copy someone – coming across rather like the musical chameleons of yore, most notably the master of reinvention Momus.
