The Coathangers have now released six albums, and I almost can’t believe it’s been 12 years since they first burst out of Atlanta, only to just about break through with their 2011 Larceny & Lace album. By that time, a lot of the other anti-macho groups who had appeared simultaneously (Mika Miko, Vivian Girls, Brilliant Colors, The Splinters etc.) where history already, mostly. The Coathangers laboured on, and on The Devil You Know, their new LP on Suicide Squeeze, they manage to come across as both seasoned veterans and eternally youthful. Check out the video for “Step Back”, and don’t miss “Memories” which is one of my favourites on this record.
