Behind the rather quirky name Hey! Douglas, we find the Istanbul DJ and sound artist E. Yasin Vural. For this project he was inspired by 70s psychedelic music, soul and funk from the Anatolian region – which he mixes with a modern disco sound. He results are remarkable, as can be heard on his first album, Marşandiz, which just came out on a major label. Strangely, it hasn’t received much press coverage outside of his home country, where he is a very successful musician. He’s also released a collaborative track together with the brilliant Turkish artist Gaye su Akyol, and you can check out the video for “Ayva Çiçek Açmış” above. I’m so pleased Akyol is coming back to Scandinavia this summer to play at the Roskilde Festival.
